Wimbledon Tennis - transport/parking?

Does anyone have any experience of best way to get to the Championships? Have been looking into driving/parking/public transport etc, I saw something about a shuttle bus that goes from the train station to the ground?
Also looked at the website for parking on peoples driveways, quite a few of those not too far away - but not knowing the area, its hard to tell what is "not too far" if you know what I mean!
Anyone been, or anyone local, who can advise??

how far do you have to come from? many of the houses nearby 'rent' their driveways fro £20 a day (maybe more)....but you have to get there early.. otherwise from wimbledon station there is a shuttle bus (you have to pay special fare, not incl in tube day pass/oyster card) or from Southfield station you can walk to the tennis (about 15/20 min walk). there are also other buses which will leave you in wimbledon village or common and from there it's another 15+min walk. The tennis shuttle leaves you at the Club's gates.
I know the area quite well and been to the championships for the last 10 yrs so if you have other questions i might be able to help.A friend is a present which you give yourself (R.Stevenson)

get a train to wimbledon (for shuttle) or southfields (if walking). There are some park and ride carparks but they cost extra. Parking enforcment is very high during the tournament, instant towing in most cases.Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today!
Cos if you do it today and like it...You can do it again tomorrow..

Thanks for the answers, will be coming from Oxford. Have now worked out that we can get the coach from Oxford into Victoria, then tube to Southfields, and this works out certainly the cheapest option, and probably the easiest too, as someone else said that the traffic in the area is a nightmare at this time!0

Another option to consider. You could drive to sunbury on thames which is at the end of the m3. Park for free by the station and its 30 mins to wimbledon.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190

District line to Southfields would be my suggestion. I'd also say get there as early as you can if you don't already have a ticket (ie you're going to queue for a ground pass) - ideally no later than 8 AM, although I know people who'd think that was far too late."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
