Window security reported computer isinfected

I opened an attachment ad got a pop up from windows security telling me my computer is infected with so many trojans and spywares. I was offered the option of remove all which I did, then it asked me to run or save the file. At this stage, I took no action, closed my computer and scan with any Kaspersky internet security, the later has no reported anything suspicious. It was quite a shock to get a report of all these infected files etc. Have I done the right thing or is the computer infected? Thanks

These things are pretty common TBH. Mostly an attempt to scare you into installing some form of mailware under the guise of a cleaner.

Next time you see one, just close the window promptly and do not click any option to remove/analyse etc. Use the task manager if you have to.

Then run your security as you have already done - all should be fine. :)

    Belt & braces.

Run a quick scan with the free version of malwarebytes (mbam)

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
    (mbam-setup-1.60.1.1000.exe 9.06mb)

Don't take up the offer of the pro trial during installation.
