As one of, if not the biggest employer in N.Ireland you would think that they would have sorted out the cycle to work scheme for their employees.
Contacted HR today and was told its still with Corporate HR and has been from at least September last year. How longs it flipping take?

Some civil service departments are already taking part in this scheme?0

I know of some CS depts that have been offering the cycle to work scheme for the past three years. In fact some have opened the scheme, and suspended it already due to oversubscription! Possibly this has had a knock on effect?DFW'ers photography comp member no. 60

If I recall correctly the cycle to work scheme is a government run system whereby employers can sign up to a scheme that allows their employees to purchase bicycles from selected retailers tax free. This equates to a pretty good saving for the employee, who basically rents the bike from the employer for a one year period whilst making direct payments from pay-packet.
At the end of the year, a final payment is required to either buy the bike outright, or hand the bike back in reasonable condition? I think the thinking behind it is to improve fitness and overall health of the workforce, and reduce vehicles commuting?
Edit: And AFAIK it wasn't just limited to the public sector?

Are we not talking about a bicycle here? "Leasing out" and "tax free allowances" for a bicycle. A bicycle can be bought for a few pound unless you want one of the designer ones with go-faster stripes on it and many people have one anyway.0

This is from DFP's March Core Brief to staff.
"The next change to HRConnect is the introduction of the Cycle to Work and TaxSmart schemes.
The Cycle to Work scheme was set up by the government to encourage people to use bicycles as a means of transport to and from work. If you wish to begin cycling to work you will soon be able to obtain a bicycle through a salary sacrifice scheme, making savings on tax and national insurance contributions. More details on this scheme, including when and how to apply will be available on the HRConnect 'What’s New’ section in the coming weeks."0 -
