hiya, i am posting on here looking for help. i have recently moved into a 1930s semi detached house and had a worcester greenstar 28i junior combi boiler installed. i have 3 bedrooms and 2 reception rooms. i have the heating on on average about 1.5 hours a day and use the hob for cooking approx 3 times a week (prob for about 20 mins at a time)
i just got a bill from british gas for 5 weeks and it was £80 - is this right? surely if i am using an a rated combi boiler and the heating is hardly on i shouldn't be paying this much? it said i had used about 170 units in that time but i'm wondering if my gas meter could be faulty?
any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Is the start meter reading accurate, i.e the value when you moved in?
Is the other reading estimated?
170 units or around 1870 Kwh seems about right considering you are using gas for cooking, heating and hot water.
Keep an eye on your readings now you have probably turned the heating off.
I would not put great store by an A rated boiler, they rarely meet their quoted efficiency value. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Well if it is billed between 2 actual readings then almost certainly it is right. 170 units in 5 weeks (I assume metric units) or 54kWhrs per day is not exceptional and well within range for a combi and 5 rooms.
First of all you need to get a handle on your usage. Take daily readings for a week, then weekly readings for the rest of the month. When next winter arrives repeat the excercise.
There is one really important thing you didn't mention at all, what temperature is the roomstat set to and where it is situated. Also how do you control the temperature in the other rooms.
Secondly how much has the insulation in a 1930's house been improved?
Answer these questions and you will get more meaningful help.0 -

By changing boilers you save kWh but those kWh are the cheap secondary kWh so the savings don't seem to be as large as they could be. You still have to pay the standing charges.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.
