Hi All

I'm starting a new job in Birmingham in at the end of April and wondering when I should look at places. I'm looking for just a room in the centre of Birmingham for Sunday-Thursday.

I've done abit of looking into places but they don't seem to hang around for long!

At the moment, I have two weeks, then I am off from Easter Sunday for a whole week. When I return, I have 1.5 weeks of work, starting the new job 2 weeks after my holiday. I was thinking of looking this Saturday, but it still around a month until I actually start the new job.

If you were in my situation, when would you start actually enquiring with potential landlords and actually visiting places?

I would love to have somewhere all lined up, however landlords are unlikely to hang around waiting for me if they can find someone ready to start earlier.

Lastly, where would you look for 5 days renting/lodging? I've looked at Gumtree, flat share, and a few other websites.

Thanks

  • I had the same dilemma a while back. I used the services of https://www.spareroom.co.uk. I listed an ad and got 3 or 4 replies and then viewed. I said I couldn't mobpve in for 2 weeks and gave £100 non refundable deposit. I think most landlords realise that the majority of decent tenants are either like yourself moving in to an area, or alternatively need to give notice.
