sorry lifeisbutadream I got all confused and didn't post my content properly.

What I meant to say was that the difference between mine and OH's earnings is 783 per month, but it ends up after deductions at around 400.

The flat - it is really sweet - it is one-bedroom, and for flats these days was not expensive. I bought it last year for £75k, it is in a good-ish area of the city and is the converted lower half of a victorian terrace (own front door). I think I got a bargain, thinking of getting it revalued. My mortgage is 4.39% (till August 2008) and I'm quite pleased with this...
  • Hi and welcome.

Not the easiest one. I'm not clear what your total income is. However I've assumed it's £2489pm for the purposes of the following figures which show you have £122.55 per week to spend on food, clothes, going out and anything else. So please let me know what your combined income is.

To prevent any further overspend, you need to write this amount (£122.55) in a little book (a spending diary) on a Monday and make a note of what you withdraw/spend and keep a balance by subtracting. The others on this site will help you to cut back, so follow their good advice and cut back on the big items first and leave the penny pinching till later. Do not use credit cards for any more purchases.

There is still missing from the SOA car servicing, and other costs.

Controlling overspend is the key first, then cut back, then shop around for cheaper deals; in that order.

    Good luck, the figures:

    total 0.00 2489.00 divide by 4.33

Thats good advice, should I cut them up?

    pmr
  • It's really up to you what you do with your credit cards. Some people would cut them up, others on here put them in a tub of water and freeze them (so they are still available if needed, but need to be thawed out for details allowing consideration of your spending before being able to do so!), I manage just by taking them out of my purse.

    Jen :D

PS Please don't feel guilty for anything. Your mental and physical well being come way above any job. It's very easy to spend money without quite realising where it's going :o speaking from experience! - but now you're here with your diary it's going to stop!!

    Edit for poor typing!!
