Utility Warehouse (Telecom Plus) Discussion

I am sure I have read somewhere that it is against UW's policy to Spam??
Any further comment required?
How is it spam to post a review of an utility supplier in a section of a website dedicated to reviews of that particular utility supplier?
Whether he was a distributor at the time of the post and whether, if so, that would be considered dishonest (it is after all possible that he was writing a genuine review) is not something I can comment on.“Things that I felt absolutely sure of but a few years ago, I do not believe now. This thought makes me see more clearly how foolish it would be to expect all men to agree with me.” - Jim Rohn0 -
Customers do not come to U.W.D.C. through price comparison sites. That is an expensive way of doing things.
Again, I'll ask as you have dodged the question again
What happens when you click on apply on Energylinx? They do not get switched to UW? Who do they get switched to then?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
heh, splitting hairs a little perhaps, but he never said they can't join through comparison sites (in that quote at least, i can't speak for evrything he's posted, anywhere, ever), only that they don't.“Things that I felt absolutely sure of but a few years ago, I do not believe now. Probably because they are always bottom of the comparison tables maybe?
But if I was considering switching to UW thats exactly what I would do so I got the cashback.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I could be wrong but I'd assume it would work the same as the 'budget plan' except you'd be billed for the exact amount used each month, according to either the estimated reading or the actual reading from the last day of the previous month (if available) instead of being billed an estimated average for the year. Bills usually arrive around the middle of the following month.
Oops, that's what I meant- it's called budget plan, I see. Thanks for that. I'm used to paying for exactly what I've used and not paying an 'average' monthly DD on account of my serial switching, where I was never with one of the Big 6 (spit) for more than 3 months.
Talking of the Big 6, you really would get the impression from reading this thread that they are the good guys and UW are the bad guys. But then you venture out there onto the other threads and that doesn't seem to be the case at all, just lots of folk moaning about the Big 6'er they are currently with but not doing anything pro-active at all. The general GPB malaise, perhaps?Nowt so funny as folk, I suppose...

I'm a serial cashback switcher (as you probably know) but I don't think I'm going to go the cashback route here  I think one of this comapny's USPs is the local distributor as point of contact approach. I like the fact that, if anything goes wrong, I know where my first port of call livesCan you imagine that happening with one of the Big 6?
'Thanks for that, Asif, I'm assuming it's OK to call you at home anytime if I have a problem? Weekends as well? You live where??'
Ps We had our first Sainsbug online order delivered tonight. We couldn't get in the kitchen for groceries. Amazing deal. Plus 262 Nectar points (whather they are!)Call me Carmine....

Firstly, from what I gather the post you quoted when you posted this was by an independent distributor, not a UW employee. If you choose to consider that to be the same thing, then please show me where I have made a personal attack or correct that blatant generalisation.
Decado23,
I have not stated, or implied, that you have made personal attacks - in fact your posts have been civilised.
I do find it rather ironic, considering all of the many inaccuracies posted on this thread by UW representatives, that you feel that the term 'employee' instead of 'distributor' merits a correction. Do you feel that term misled readers of the thread? They didn't realise to whom I was referring?
So if we are down to semantics, what is incorrect about this statement?
"Whenever criticism is made of the company, UW [STRIKE]employees[/STRIKE] distributors resort to personal attacks rather than answer the points raised."
Had I said 'all' distributors you might have had cause for complaint.
Read through this thread. Time after time we have people like vinnyph who lose control, and resort to personal abuse rather than address issues.0 -
I've been thinking about this today, you know. I totally accept I can be a right cumudgeonly old b****** at times and I'm not one for backing down when someone riles me. Sometimes I'm certain I go too far. I'm human, I guess, with all the contradictions that entails. But, in my defence, although some may think it slightly childish, I do have a sense of humour and it frequently escapes on this and indeed other threads. People who genuinely know me would say I had a fun outlook on life in general (with the usual caveat of me getting a bee in my bonnet about certain things). I genuinely can't remember one of either Cardew or Quentin's thousands of posts that contain even a hint of suggesting there may be a bit of fun lurking beneath the usual macho postering and desparation to have the last word. Just unrelenting and frankly depressing onslaughts on people's views which don't align with theirs. I sincerely hope (for their loved ones sakes if nobody elses) they are only like that online.Call me Carmine....

While I can understand that the difference between employee and distributor is of small or no importance to you (and probably many other people) it is an important distinction - all 'independent authorised distributors' are self employed, we promote and recruit on behalf of utility warehouse as sub-contractors. The distinction is important as if we post here as 'employees' people reading may assume our comments are official statements from the company. As we are all aware, from time to time there are comments posted which I think we'd all agree telecom plus would wish to distance themselves from as much as possible. Hence the bit in my sig about being my opinions only etc.Had I said 'all' distributors you might have had cause for complaint.

heh, had you said 'all' distributors I certainly would have had cause for complaint. Had you said 'some' distributors I wouldn't have bothered disputing the point.
I figured the intended meaning of your comment was unclear - now it seems clear that the lack of 'all' is significant I'm happy to leave it.
with regards to any distributors resorting to personal abuse (this is not directed at ANY specific post or poster but is merely a general observation), in my experience any sufficiently large group of people will have it's fair share of nice people, not so nice people and people of pretty much any other description. It's never a good thing to judge a whole group based on regrettable experiences with a small number of that group (even if this site does perhaps attract more than average).
I've only been with UW a few months but all the distributors I've met at seminars and training sessions have been pretty decent folk (as far as I could tell).“Things that I felt absolutely sure of but a few years ago, I do not believe now. While we are in 'civilised mode' a question if I may.
What is the position if the rebate from the cash card is always greater than the bill, and a credit is built up?
I read earlier that someone had got a £100 rebate in a month. Unlikely scenario but say a family does that every month.
A couple of predictions about UW.
The present terms and conditions on the cashcard, 5% discount, top up payments etc will be degraded in the future.
In the longer term UW will be sold off to one of the big 6, much as Mr Wigoder sold his telecoms company to Vodafone.
