Does Virgin CC (MBNA) owe me money?

Thanks Bengalknights. I will give this a go. Funny how CC companies are quick to demand when you owe them money, but conveniently keep schtum when they might owe you something!

I'm sure you would have been sent a statement showing your balance was in credit, it is not their responsibility to get that back to you. When applying for the credit card you agree to make payments by the due date. They are very different things.

I closed a CC account some years ago. It had a small credit balance and they automatically sent me a cheque for the amount. I wonder why this lot didn't do the same? Do they expect a customer to submit a claim for the credit balance otherwise it'll be retained indefinitely by the CC company?

I used to have a Virgin CC but have closed it and disposed of the T&Cs. Perhaps they DO hang onto balances until asked to return them.

Most likely it would be automatically refunded. I believe it may have just been when the payment hit the account. If a DD claimed (or for some reason payment made) after the account was closed it wouldn't automatically refund and would sit until requested. Once again, if not constant statements being received, there would have been at least one more showing the payment that put it (and left it) in credit

Knowingly withholding money is fraud. Worth complaining to them.

    Not usually.
  • I have just looked back on my old statements - I was on paperless statements at the time so was not receiving any through the post. It seems that on the final month, I paid the balance in full but they also took my direct debit AS WELL. Hence the overpayment. I did not check any statements after that date because as far as I was concerned, the full amount was paid as no further payment was due. Yes, it was an oversight on my part not to check beyond this, but as far as I was aware you could not end up "in credit" with a CC. I have had numerous CCs and this has never happened to me before. It would have been useful if they had sent me a letter or an email to bring it to my attention that I was owed money - after all, if I went for 12 months without paying them money I owed them they would send me enough letters!

For those who have replied in a sarcastic or condescending manner - there is absolutely no need for this. I am not stupid and I asked for advice, not judgement. Furthermore, to use somebody's level of debt to make disparaging comments against them is insensitive, inappropriate and quite frankly appalling.

Finally, thank you to all those who did reply in a helpful way :) Much appreciated.

Obviously then you also failed to check your bank statement to find out the direct debit had gone through in addition to failing to check your credit card statement. For 1 year. No you are not stupid but you have been irresponsible and cannot blame the credit card company for your own failure to check your statements for a year.

You know how to check '''noddle''' though!!!!

24 hours too late mate, move on.

Also, if you're trying to insinuate I spelled the company name wrong, I didn't. It is """"""NODDLE""""""

No. I wasn't trying to insinuate that at all.
