New account and transfer of DD+SOs

So I applied/got a new account today with RBS and my card + Pin + online banking details are in the post to me. How long do you think it will take to arrive?
When I applied online I asked for them to do the whole transfer but in the branch I forgot to ask (they had to redo the application). I don't mind doing it myself but I want to transfer my money across when I get paid which is 28th March. I only have 7 DDs with only 2 going out on 2nd April or before. I tried to change my virgin media DD which comes out on 2nd April but they don't allow it, not untill that payment has gone out.
Should I cancel all DDs now on my soon to be old account? As I can't change my Virgin DD at present does that mean that the DD will still be paid even if I do cancel?
I will be tranfering money to my new account for the bills and to my metro account for spending.
