Number 7 here with a quick update. my new total paid is 484.46.

Going on a cheap holiday to my brother's holiday home hoping to re-engergised to get creative with ways of making extra payments. Have paid off just over £20000 since joining this site 5 years ago and with roughly that amount left I'm hoping to pay the rest off in half that time.

I used to do all the free scratchards, bingo, surveys etc but have lost my way with those, are these things still on the go? or is there a 'new thing' to be trying?

    Hi everyone

I've been looking for a thread challenge that will suit me and I think I've found it here.

Like lots of other MSEs I had a lifestyle which accumulated a lot of "affordable" debt and then changes to circumstances meant that it could have become a problem if I hadn't found this great site. I've learned loads of ways to pay down the debt and minimise interest etc but I need a challenge for the final stretch. I've done my sums and July 2014 should be achievable with some effort (which is why I wanted to join a challenge).

So please put me down for £40,328.23

I appreciate that is a large sum but just to explain - it includes a mortgage which I want to finish earlier and 2 x 0% balance transfers for my DS and SiL which I took out for them because they couldn't get them in their own names. They have been paying me back regularly with standing orders and in a way this has lulled me into a false sense of how well I am doing as my total payments each month have been above target. However when I calculated how much I was paying off my own debts it wasn't as good as it should be. I have cleared a couple of debts completely in the last 3 months and again this has made me feel good but I need to do better. So general belt tightening all round coming up.

I'm also taking part in the decluttering thread and this helps as it would be counter productive to decluttering to buy unnecessary stuff.

I will update at least on a monthly basis but hope I am doing well enough to be able to report significant addtional payments

Everyone seems to be making good progress so far.

    thanks

Number 10 checking in with her first report:

I've paid off £1674.71 which is 4.86% of my total - a long way to go but not a bad start :)
  • Morning (just!) all. Could you update me as having paid off £442.21 of my target please?

Welcome FlowerofScotland good luck with your challenge. Yet another £60 from my total please Dragon.
  • Thanks for the welcome.

I've been thinking about how to report what I have paid off my debt. Because it's not all at 0% (it inlcudes a mortgage and some "life of balance" credit card debt at low rates) if I just report on what I have paid off it won't give a true reflection of what is left.

I was thinking that if I do an update on total owed each month and then show the difference between the previous month as paid off the total debt? Obviously the mortgage part can only be an estimate until I get the annual statement but I thought I would err on the side of owing more.

    What does everyone else do?

Well i am in a lucky position cause i am just paying back the "Bank of mum" so i dont incur any interest charges so am not a good person to ask. So saying I still have not done as well as others so maybe not so lucky after all as maybe the interest boosts people faster. Not a lot of help I know sorry xx
