Did MBNA automatically add PPI to existing cuwtomers

Hi All,
Big fan of the site, but first time on the forums.
We are currently working through our PPI claims and have come across a letter from MBNA that seems to state that they have added PPI without consulting us. This wasn't during any application stage, we had been with MBNA for many years.
I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this? and what the response from MBNA has been?
I will post a copy of the letter later.
