I just snip off what I want to use and leave an inch of the white bit with the roots on and stick that into a pot of compost/soil by the window sill. Keep it watered and let it grow back the green bits
you'll be amazed how fast they grow!

Ooh! I'll give that a try, great idea. Maybe if you put a few into a pot you could just keep snipping the the tops like with salad leaves? I've got a tray of very fine seedlings coming up at the moment which look more like fine grass. I agree with the late night shop as often you can get some bargains if you catch it at the right time.Herbs are so easy to grow though,even on a window ledge and well worth the effort.Who can remember growing mustard and cress as a child on some cotton wool on the window ledge
