Hiya, I'm new here so excuse me for being a bit of a novice haha. Just looking to offer some tips on saving money as I've started penny-pinching recently and it's really helped!
It might sound really silly, but I only ever buy fresh herbs for special recipes that call for the most flavour. As a student, sometimes my priority is buying on a budget rather than buying the freshest ingredients. This meant that when I bought fresh herbs from the supermarket, I'd use them in that one special dish and then they'd sit in the fridge until they went off - A complete waste!
Now, though, I find that if you buy fresh herbs and FREEZE them, they last a heck of a lot longer! I have a tonne of frozen coriander in my freezer that I whip out when I'm making a curry - at the end of making it I add in some leaves and they defrost almost instantly, giving you a fresh taste!
Thanks for listening and I hope this helps!

Oh didn't know you could do that. I've got some fresh flat-leaf parsley and thyme so will give it a go instead of chucking it. Thanks! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0

Even cheaper if you can grow your own on a windowsill, or if not buy a pot, keep it watered and freeze cuttings in an ice cube tray.0

Its easy to grow mixed salad even in pots/trays on a window sill. You just pick a few leaves that you want. Also as said grow own herbs, parsley mint and very easy to grow in small pots0

Or go late at night to the supermarket, herbs are always reduced down to 5p at my local- no one wants them

I've got a garden full of various herbs - it was quite funny when the kids were little, they had this thing about hiding things for me to find and I could tell where they had hidden them just by the smell! It meant I could keep the game going for ages by avoiding just that place! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Thanks for that tip. Although I am growing salad leaves and spring onions this year, I was annoyed that spring onions bought from the supermarket a couple of days ago have given up already. (I always put them straight into a glass of water when I get them home) I'm wondering if they would freeze too or if anyone else has any tips on prolonging their life?

I chop them up and freeze them - seems to work
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.0 -
Thanks that could save me a lot of money until my own home-grown ones are ready!:Ddonteatthat wrote: »I chop them up and freeze them - seems to work
