Which laptop to buy?

Hi all,
I am looking for some advice please. My son has saved up and wants to buy himself a laptop. He has £400 to spend, he wants it to be able to do homework, go on the Internet and also he plays an online game called minecraft.
Anyway I have no idea about computers etc, we have been looking for about a month now but still none the wiser on what to get.
Would someone be able to recommend a decent one? I don't want him to waste his money on one that is not very good.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

'gaming' on a laptop is always a hard thing, however if games are likely AMD are usually a better choice than intel due to better intergrated graphics chipsets
with this in mind (with minimum looking) http://www.ebuyer.com/337140-asus-x53z-laptop-x53z-sx052v would appear to be a fantastic buy
as the processor is good enough for most things, yes a sandybridge based intel would be faster but doesnt have the graphics grunt that is included with the AMD chipset, which is of course the trade of in this instance.
the ram is also pretty high and the hard drive surprisingly big, on top of this its an Asus which tend to be one of the more reliable makers out there at the moment (last warrenty claims servey i had showed Asus as the best above Sony Toshiba and Apple)Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Thank you so much for your reply
We have also seen on ebuyer the asus x53e, ( don't know how to post links) would you know what is the better of the 2?
Thank you again for your help.0 -
tis a hard call as the one you have posted about does have a superior processor, but has less ram, smaller hard drive and a slightly worse graphics chipset (if its the one i have found) and of course is a little more expensive.
i would expect both of them would do what you want with the one you have said about being quicker in everyday tasks (in general) but the one i have posted being a bit quicker for gamesDrop a brand challenge
