How to insure a learner driver

Can anyone advise on the cheapest way to insure a 17-year old? She is about to learn to have driving lessons which I wanted to supplement by teaching her in my car.
I am insured with Post Office; it's a fully comp cover for which I paid just over £200. When I rang to find out how much it would be to add her, they couldn't tell me, as her birthday is next monthy, but estimated it to be around £1000. There must be a cheaper way, and I seem to remember martin's article on the subject some months ago, but I can't find it!

If you are still to be the main driver then you simply need to add her as a named driver.... I am very surprised that budget cant give a figure as long as they date the amendment to after her 17th b'day.
Obviously once you have the actual quote from Post Office/ Budget then also ask how much it will cost to cancel the policy.... then go round and get other quotes.... then decide if it is cheaper to add her now or cancel and change insurers (remember to consider loss of NCD if you are below the maximum as you wont gain a part years NCD for cancelling early)
If you are cancelling then consider the level of cover you are going for... as a young driver she will have to pay up to £500 excess on top of the normal excess (depending on the insurer) so if the car is only worth £1000 then it may not be cost effective to have comprehensive insurance if TPFT is cheaper. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

The Cheapest Way Will Be To Add Her As A Named Driver As Presumeably You'l Have A Decent Ncd. Do Bare In Mind Should She Have An Accident, This Does Affect Your Ncd Though (if Protected You'l Be Fine)
Obviously If She Is On Your Policy Then She Will Not Be Earning Her Own Ncd But, Some Companies Will Allow Her To Earn Some Sort Of A Discount Whilst Named On Your Policy But You Need To Ask Them, If You Do Get A Company That Does That For You, Then It Will Help When She Decides To Get Her Own Car And Then Needs To Insure It Herself.0 -
Ah, the reason they can't quote is that if you put in an age below 17 on the system, the system will not accept the date of birth, and you can be sacked for adding in the wrong date to get a quote.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Go through Confused.com (via Martin's link, of course).
I've just bought my daughter a car (Group 5), insured in her name with me as a named driver. £750 from Quinn Direct as she is a learner. Goes up about a third if she's passed her test.0 -

Curious to why you think "Martin" should get the commission from using his link especially as some allege that when people follow affiliate links that prices are quoted higher (not something that I believe but still)All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
