humax

I have a humax fox freeview recorder.

Its driving me nuts.

Wont record when its programmed even though we are watching the programme we want o record.

The reception is crap on a range of channels.

If it records then it is skipping missing chunks of the programme.

Gone backto the factory defauld also auto reinstalled all the channels and it still is picking up all the channels.

Any ideas.

Help before it goes out the front room window.

It sounds as if you may have tuned in signals from more than one transmitter - a common cause of problems. Check by seeing if you have channel numbers in the 800 range. If so, I suggest you check out the instructions in this thread on hummy.tv - post 21 is the key post.

You'll have these kind of problems with any freeview box/recorder until you sort your reception issues out. As above - are you receiving from 2 transmitters? Is your aerial/wiring still looking OK?
Receiving all channels is a sign of at least half decent reception, but still doesn't guarantee that the signal's strong enough.
  • Thanks guys.

i have a new digital ariel and it is conected to a signal booster.

The guy at humax blames the tv as its a single tuner?

There's no such thing as a digital aerial. Your signal booster may be making things worse, try the system without it.
Nothing to do with the TV, and any TV I know of is single tuner! Just to check you've got the connections right, you should have the aerial from your wall, into the humax, then from the humax into the TV.

I have experienced the skipping problem but that has improved from the time I bought it where it was doing it almost once a day to now where it is rare if it happens once a month(fingers crossed). No idea what causes but I can tolerate rate for now.
My signal is quite strong so have not had the reception problems you have had and my timer also works fine. The only thing I can think of which could screw up your timer is the time settings maybe being wrong but then you mentioned that it does record sometimes so I would assume the time was correctly set.
Can you record manually without using the timer? Does it still miss out bits that way?
