Well, I was just watching This Morning and Martin Lewis was on there, and he said that you can register free to check your account. So you sign up, check your file, then deactivate your account.

I haven't checked my account for years, so went in and registered, and it said I had an old account and to reactivate, but to still pay £14.99! Martin Lewis just said you can do this for £2 for a one off check???
  • Yeah just shelled out £2 for it, not a massive issue for me hence refuse to pay £14.99 a month.

However signed up for the 'free trial' years ago so it's not an option for me.

jlojgirl - you need to choose the 'statutory credit file' to get a copy of your file for £2. If you try to reactivate an old account you will be charged for full access.

You can do a free trial with experian if you've never signed up for the online service before.
Similarly you can do a free 1 month trial just once with equifax. But noddle (callcredit) have free access permanently (although noddle is the smallest of the 3 agencies and its usually advised to get copies of all your files as they will vary).

Obscene. Even worse than when it was £6.99/month for the basic credit report (without the score). Now there is no option for that service and if you want to subscribe you have to go for the £14.99 with the worthless credit score included.

Hopefully more and more people will realise what a waste of money it is and stop subscribing.

you can get the £6.99 but you have to pay the £14.99 first then call up and ask for it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
