Current owners with EON - switch?

I am buying a new house and the owners are with EON for both Gas and Electric - I'm not quite sure what their bills are to be able to fill in a comparison site but it's a 4 bedroom property and has an AGA (probably not very money saving!)

I really want to be with a company where there are no issues with paying by DD and reading are quick and easy! Is there any reason not to stay with EON?

Just fill in the comparison with E.ON as supplier, a standard online tariff (or whatever E.ON call their standard tariff), 16,500 kWhrs annually for gas and 3,300 for electricity. The ranking order of the results will be quite accurate. Ignore the savings which will not be accurate until your annual consumption is established.

    Hi bunnydrumming

Just a quick heads up. Please let us have meter readings for the day you take over responsibility for the property. That way, we can make sure your account starts off on the right foot.

I do understand the difficulties when moving and the many different demands on your time. Therefore, it's ok if you make a quick note when you move in and let us have them later.

If you do decide to switch supplier, it usually takes about 6 weeks for the change to go through and we'll continue to supply the property until this happens.

We'll start you off on our standard tariff. There are no tie-ins or restrictions with this product.

There are other tariffs which may be a little cheaper whilst you're with us but if you do decide to look at one of these, make sure there are no restrictions as some of our tariffs do have these.

Hope the move goes well and that you'll be happy in your new home.

  • Thanks for the responses - so if I stay with EON I am not tied into a year's contract. This might be my best plan until I know more about my usage then. The previous owners have two children so I'm imagining I would use less then them anyway

I've been with EON for quite a while now, only problem I've ever had was getting a bill for a couple hundred grand for a 3 bedroom house :) I called them, somone put in the wrong reading hence the huge bill, myself and customer services had a good laugh about it whilst they sorted it out.

They did have some products that tied you in, wouldnt imagine their standard rate would have that though, check out their website for tariffs etc
Also, I do comparisons now and again, usually EON are one of the cheapest, not always cheapest, but so far theres never been enough of a difference to make me change supplier

You will be in a deemed contract with EON anyway from day one, so you must take meter readings and register with them. Then use a comp site with your estimated kWh figures and then switch to the best available tariff-that wil take 4-5 weeks.
There is no ETC if you register for Standard tariff.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    Hi bunnydrumming

That's right, if you do nothing, you'll just go on our standard tariff. This isn't a contracted product and you can leave at any time.

I would say that was helpful, however would there be a slightly discounted "online standard" product?

    Hi Jalexa

Yes, there's the EnergyOnline product. This gives 10 per cent discount for online management, taking both gas and electricity and paying with a Monthly Direct Debit.

There's also an electric only version with 8 per cent discount.

Again, no cancellation charges. Just a quick heads up, though. As with all our products, customers changing supplier don't receive any discount on the final bill.

A new customer wouldn't automatically be put on to this product. They would need to register with our website and switch product. This could be done online or by calling in.

I recommend you take a photgraph of the meter on entry. As well as the record it is sometimes useful to be able to refer to information on the meter.
