Thanks for all your kind wishes, I'm stressed because we had a meeting with the wedding venue yesterday & they dropped a huge bombshell on us!
With just over 3 months to go, their building work is behind schedule so they have nowhere to store the tables & chairs they were going to buy, so they are going to have to hire them instead, apparently this cost is being passed onto us!!!
Not only that, but the wines on offer for the table are going to be the max £12 a bottle (we were quoted £8-12 a bottle) & yet you can buy them in a supermarket for around half the cost, so when they buy them wholesale we will be paying over double the cost, that's a huge profit margin! I expected to pay more than cost but that is daylight robbery
Worse still, their "bar" will include the wines as available on the table, a cask ale, Stella in cans (which they will pour into plastic glasses), Old Speckled Hen, & Bulmers/Magners. That's not a bar to me, where are the spirits? No other choice of lager?! She said she'd look into spirits...but it's not confirmed that there will be any.
These are the worst offenders we're also now being told if the heaters for the marquee are required, we have to cover the cost of the diesel, there was no table for the cake or cards/gifts except what was essentially patio furniture on a central base (not sturdy enough for my cake thanks!), the building work is waaaaay past their estimations, we could only see 1 toilet available for use (we have 120 evening guests!) & I have just lost all confidence in them.
They haven't been doing weddings for long but I was under the impression they'd done at least 20 now, so this should not be happening, it all seems so unprofessional for the amount we are paying.
I tried to call her today to speak to her about it but was asked to email.
I feel sick to my stomach the wedding isn't even going to go ahead as planned now as it sounds like a disaster!
:(:(
Sorry for the rant.....feels slightly better to get it out though!:idea:Debt at July 2012: £12,862.57

If the invites have not gone out, what about looking for another venue? As its their responsibility to provide the tables for the wedding it not your fault for their delayed building work, I would argue with them that they should cover the cost of hire or at least split the cost fifty fifty stand firm on this. Sounds like you are being ripped off by this company so you're within your rights to cancel as they will not have been seen to fufill their side of the contract.

Yikes Perni that sounds like a nightmare. Would it be a good idea to send a letter detailing your concerns/complaints? I always find I can say things in writing that I would be too scared (!!:o) to say verbally.

Morning to all.
Ziggy2407 - can I ask what work you do for 2 hours a day - sounds ideal for me.
Hi
I work in the school kitchen - something Ive never ever done before, mainly washing lots of pots and pans, cleaning, serving food, the 2 hours rush by and its over before you know it, lol. I only started in Feb but thought I'd be silly to not take the opportunity as I only live 5 mins from school, its my sons school and is term-time - so WIN WIN WINGoodreads 2025 Challenge :16/75

Thanks hun, I'm trying to stay positive but it's all a bit much now, not what I need with 3 months to go & I was just about to do the invitations!AMILLIONDOLLARS wrote: »If the invites have not gone out, what about looking for another venue? We've thought of this, the trouble is the places we liked were out of our price range, & at this late stage I don't think we'd find anything we liked & could afford at such short notice when we're planning on getting married on 30th June (peak season).Yikes Perni that sounds like a nightmare. Would it be a good idea to send a letter detailing your concerns/complaints? I always find I can say things in writing that I would be too scared (!!:o) to say verbally.
Email sent with all concerns politely worded...hoping for the best now & a super quick response so I can either continue with the invitations as planned, or make up a Plan B pronto!!!:idea:Debt at July 2012: £12,862.57
