Ok am sure you all got the gist i rang the number only to be told my money is £605 i ask why and was told that the have add some cost to it.
So i rang Equita to find out if the amount was right only to be told that i can olny deal with the agent on the letter and my file is with him.
That was a bit of surprise to me since the saw my details with my ref number how come the have no figure to give me on how much the money was, i rang the council involve and was told the money
left there office for £205 BEFORE GOING TO THE BAILIFF, The number the council gave was different from the equita number on there website that was 0203 number so i decided
to ring that number again the person i spoke to said my file as been pass to the same number i have in the letter again he was not ready to discuss the total amount only that i speak to the number he gave
me now am confused, i rang the number again and decided to record the conversation i ask same question why must i pay in when i can pay online he said NO since the file his with him i can only pay him
i ask to know how come the amount was £605 he said the 1st visit was done thru a GPS from there office that cost £56 and £11.20 for the letter plus vat and another money.
Have read alot from the thread but i just want a bit of more advice i have a meeting with a legal department if all goes well so will update you all.
    Thank you

However it's different to what darkpool seemed to be saying so which is right?

What I've said matches the articles so I'll leave it up to you to decide.

Beginning to think trackers are the way forward for me but my research so far seems to indicate that some areas won't have a suitable tracker so I should try to find an active fund here.

T|he case for trackers is pretty compelling if explained well, and no one explains it better than Tim Hale in "The Smarter Investor", which has become something of a modern classic.

That said, excellent though the book is (and it has made an impact on my own portfolio), there is still space for some active funds, partly for the reason you suggest, and partly because there is something inside many (or even most) equity investors that strives to do better than the market. Hale actually talks about this tendency in some detail, and his arguments were hard to counter. But not hard enough!

    Good book though. Recommended.

Must admit I am still what you would consider a novice when it comes to investing in funds..Early years I took out a couple with brokers who charged me up front.Whilst I am happy with the funds performance. I always felt I could do better after a bit of research.Initially started with Cautious and Balanced Portfolio but now moved into Emerging Markets..From this site I found access to research sites Still adopt a cautious approach, by that I mean Funds that tend to already have a track record of performance such as Abereen and Axa.Also like to buy via DD to spread my risk. I am not looking for massive returns. 2010/11 ISA's returning 4%, but these suffered as a result of some big shocks in the markets last year.these where more cautious.

and 7% so far in 2011/12,these are a bit more risky.Next tax year I will be looking at Asia. Not sure if this should include Japan or exclude it.
