MPPI missold ?

Hi I am a little bit confused wether i can put in a claim for miselling . Until recently we were quiet happy paying mppi , we have been for 12 years . Then just before Christmas my husband was laid off , he is a sub contractor on a self employed basis , we thought we would have a claim but no he is not covered as he his self employed he always has been . Although we wasnt happy we were still able to pay morgage as i work full time and left the cover in place as i was still covered. But on recieving our morgage statement last week i had a really good read of it checking insurance to see how much we paid to see if i was able to cut costs down and i noticed only my husband was named on payment protection ,i gave them a call and was told no i wasnt covered , only my husband was (who couldnt claim as he was self employed ) so we have been paying this for 12 years now and it seems like we would have never been eligable to claim . I clearly remember recieving a phone call just after we took our morgage out asking if we would like payment protection .We did , i told her we both worked full time so we both needed cover and that my husband was a subcontractor on a self employed basis , and upto recently we had no idea we wasnt covered have we been missold or is it our own fault for not checking paperwork properly .

That at least verifies it was set up correctly and eliminates the main complaint reason for MPPI (should be monthly, bad ones are single premium)

When you say he always has been, forgive my memory but didnt the building trade go through some changes with regards to self employed/employed/sub-contracting some years back that changed the status of many in the industry? I cant remember the years that occurred but it may be relevant as mis-sale relates to the sale. Not subsequent changes.
