i do both competitive agility and flyball with my dog.
the most expensive thing about it is petrol.
people spend more money on a night out than i do spending the whole weekend with my dog, so it is really is, i i guess, about priorities.
bonanddom - which team are you with?0 -
doh. double post!0

Why don't I do it?
1) Perception from people involved in "dog sports" that only breed dogs are able to do anything and the constant sneering down their noses at a mongrel (come across this a fair bit)
2) Distance - local groups are still the far side of the city - petrol costs an arm and a leg these days
3) You wouldn't be getting the tennis ball back in one piece from my dog!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
My Ollie would love flyball he's a ball mad loon0

dizzieblond - you must know the wrong people!!!
most of our club is non-collie, and a lot of the dogs who are running in it are rescues of indeterminate breed and origin!0 -

I agree its a very cheap way to have a fantastic time.
We are members of Teesdale flyball club, my DD just competed at Crufts with her BC Fly for the Teesdale Tornadoes - you may have seen her on More4:T:T
Which team do you run with?Light travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -

We joined our club with the same reservation as you mention in point one. TBH I can only speak for our club as that the only one I have experience of. Having previously had horses and ponies (and alot more money to spend) I worried that when I turned up with my little JRT I would get the same response. Anyone is welcome and there is certainly no looking down the nose here.
Little Domino has gone through more tennis balls than I would care to count :rotfl::rotfl:. However for some reason he doesn't chew them at training, but 10 secs at home and a ball is toast:eek:Light travels faster than sound - that's why you can see someone who looks bright until they open their mouth.0 -
I'm with Warwickshire, competing at Kineton bank holiday weekend.....anyone else there?
I think that about 70% of the dogs competing are collies but I've never met any discrimination with my dogs, smaller dogs are valued as 'height dogs' and teams are seeded to level the playing field.
i don't tend to camp as have children who are really not interested but love my days away! (and do camp at the Champs!)
We'll have to have a moneysaving expert met at the Champs this year!0 -
i'm with karma (in newcastle).
bonandom, get carter - i'm sure both of you have seen me scream AMBIE really high pitched at gap farm over the winter!!!0
