Semi Detached Chalet Front End Gable

There is a bad crack across the front of my joint front end gable. I have had a structural engineer in who says that the whole gable (both my neighbours and mine) needs to be rebuilt. I have had a quote for £6500 for the whole thing - is this a fair quote?
Also I have not managed to get my neighbours to speak to me about it as yet - I'm a bit worried about my rights - as it is in real need of repair!
Any advice most appreciated!
