RAM memory

I have just purchased a new PC and wonder if someone could advise on...

I have removed the RAM memory card from my OLD pc - as this was purchased as an add on and installed by a techie person.

Can this be installed on my new pc??

It is a kingston ValueRAM - KVR133x64C3/256

Will it be OK to just insert and go...??

I have only 512RAM on my new PC and wonder if it would be OK in order to add memory, unsure if it is OK hence the question

Plus, would anything actually be stored on it if I were to install on my new one... sorry so many questions not technical at all

One last thing, would my guarantee be voided if I were to install it?

Thanks

You've not said what your new pc is.

Considering your old ram is SDRAM it is highly unlikely you could use it in a new pc which is more likey to be DDR or DDR2.

Some PC's take different memory- type, pins number, speed etc

Visit here http://www.crucial.com/ to see what type of memory your new system can take. Google the chip to have to see if it is the same "type"

Computer RAM memory chips only store info when they have a current applied, so there will be no info on that memory chip.

That depends on your guarentee..... if it is the wrong memeory chip then there is a good chance it will not even fit the memory chip slot on your new pc... and it should not be forced !

That's DDR2 memory which is completely different, so no you won't be able to use the old memory.

Plus with virtually all new machines bought "all-in-one" today, opening the case invalidates any warrenty (unless done by the company you bought it from) - a real pain if you want to add an extra HD in or upgrade teh memory at a later stage as it ties you to that company.
