Fund raising Questions!!

Options
Hi all,
I'm unsure if i'm in the right section, and this is my first thread, so apologies if i've done it wrong!!

Anyway..
I'm wondering what the laws and regulations are on doing money raising events for one child with a disability.
My friend as a child with Cerebral palsy, he's three years old, and is unable to walk or sit unaided, with research we've found that there are operations available but at a costly price..
I was wondering, if I was able to do a run for him, and raise money towards his furture operation, I was planning on doing a 10-14 mile run..
But I'm unsure if you can just do this, i'm sure there are rules around doing it especially for one child only? And obtaining donations etc..
I'd really appreciate any information available!!

Many thanks!!

You can certainly raise funds to help one specific child.

What you can't do is create a registered charity on behalf of one individual.

Just make it clear to everyone donating what it is for, and make sure good records are kept of the monies collected. It would be a good idea to have a separate bank account and have a neutral person (or two people anyway) counting any cash collected, partly to ensure that things are done properly but mainly to protect yourself from any accusations.
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.
