I know that this is neither OS or MSE, but I wanted to share this with some of you lovely people on here.
I accidentally found this forum...

I was looking for a recipe for treacle farls and stumbled across this. I have just spent a good couple of hours trawling through old memories, looking at pics of my old church, primary school, reading about Buck Alec (the infamous owner of the lion with no teeth!!).
Feel free to move, as I couldn't decide where best to put this. BTW, there are recipes on there which may help:D

Hey! Welcome from out of the lurking closet! I vaguely remember meeting Buck Alec when I was out for a walk with my Dad, but it may be just that he used to tell us stories about him. I grew up off York Road, so it is entirely possible that I did meet him!
So, come on....... share your recipe for treacle farls then! The only time I tried to make them they were, erm, solid!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Haha......I CHEAT!!! buy bag of sodabread flour , follow the recipe on side of bag DONT put in the salt though,in a jug mix 4 tablespoons of treacl in with the buttermilk whatever amount stated on side of bag, mixing takes 10 mins bit boring but thats the secret to them being soft. Once you have mixed treacle and b-milk together until no lumps left it will be a really dark coffee colour add sugar,i guessed the amount about 200grms you will prob find out if they too sweet or not if so next time use less sugar, or make a small farl and if not sweet enough add more sugar to remaining mixture. i lightly grease a non stick pan and cook on hob number 3 its electric for about 4 mins each side or until dark enough for you. hope this helps.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

What do you have to mix for 10 minutes? The treacle and buttermilk mixture? I can't imagine it's anything with the dough as it would be over kneaded. If it is the treacle mixture, could I not just whizz it with a stick blender instead?Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
