I don't see what the problem is with putting these things up on ebay... it gives other people a chance to have it, who would have to have gone without otherwise!

What shall I put here?

Hmmm. Not really. I'm after a list of the advertised "1,000's of items at half price" - or at least a way to search for them. That page only shows 4 of them.

I am trying to understand the logic in that one?

    Scenario One

Person A: Doesn't buy laptop at reduced price to sell on EBay.
Person B: Buys laptop at reduced price from PC World for personnel use.

    Scenario Two

Person A: Does buy laptop at reduced price to sell on EBay.
Person B: Buys laptop at inflated price from EBay for personnel use.

Whilst I don't know Person B, my hunch is that they would favour Scenario Two. ;)

Footnote: I am not saying buying to sell on is wrong, rather, that the original statement defending it was flawed. IMHO. :D

Well the trouble is that your not paying the £49.99 but £69.99 or whatever plus postage, if this person hadn't bought it they could have got for the cheaper price.

And even worse if someone buys more than one. Though if you buy one thinking you want one or a friend and then dont want it.. thats a different matter

With regards to the 1000's of items it refers to the number of items in total its selling at discount prices ie 250 x Samsung printer, 280 x laptop (so theres only 4 or so distinct products on sale.

I've posted on this forum before about getting cheap offers. This board is called "Grab it while you can" for a good reason.
We should also be clear that MSE is not the only place where people are looking out for and posting info about bargains - there are lots of these boards - so we are competing with a lot of people for these items.
If you don't really want something then you could leave it in store for someone else, but there is no guarantee that those people aren't buying it with the express intention of selling it on (just look at the number of Dell Dimension resellers on Ebay).
So my view is this - I see what I perceive is a bargain and I grab it. Sometimes these are limited in number (as with PC World 250s), others are just mistakes by the seller (like the Gamecubes). I keep what I want for myself and then pass the others on to friends and colleagues at the same price I got them for. If for any reason I can't find anyone to take them off me, then I will sell them on Ebay.
I don't see any problem with this approach, and many of my mates are very pleased with the various Gamecubes, cheap vodka, Playstations, Dell Dimensions, Dell memory, LOTR DVDs, printers etc. that I have bought for them on the cheap.

I don't see a problem selling on Ebay. They've all been uncreative and followed crowd to buy and resell as there are so many Dell PCs, printers etc of the same model available and they are not even reaching the price they bought it for :rotfl:

As there is so many of the same type available, the bargainer hunter has a loads to choose from :)

So isn't their advert of having 1000's of products at half price a little misleading? When Tesco or whoever say they've reduced the price of 100's products instore - they're referring to 100's of different types of product - they're not counting how many tins of heinz baked beans they reduced!!

Either way, it's just hard luck for the person who didn't get in there fast enough. Welcome to capitalism!

As far as I'm concerned if someone gets in there first and pays their money then they're entitled to do what they like with it no matter how unfair it seems. It just adds an extra person who has benefitted and rather conversely could be argued to be more fair. Rather than say one person saving £40 on an item, they may have only saved £20 and someone else has made £20.
  • I have a Samsung printer reserved at the Guildord branch, please pm me if anyone wants it (for personal use please) - don't think I can get there today....
