My Husband is looking to start up on his own as a mechanic working from home.
We have just sold our current home and are looking for a property with either a large garage/workshop or space to put one.
Does anyone know where we stand legally as far as running this type of buisness from home?
Any advice welcome,
TIA..

Ensure that any lender on the property is aware that you plan to use the property, at least in part, for commercial purposes.
Check with the local planning offivce that they are ok with using the residential property for commercial purposes.
Don't forget to tell the council so they can calculate the appropriate business rates.
Don't forget to inform your insurer."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
move in and wait for the neighbours to hate you for indiscriminate parking, revving of engines all days,no peace as customers past and present turn up at your door anytime wanting a cheap fix
best advice is buy a council house and fit in nicely with the others
next door to me?
no thanks
i take my work to work
only sensible way round this is to either rent a unit and take the work there or buy a house already suited to the task or find one in plenty of its own grounds with nice big hedges round
council will still usually say no though so build a garage for your car then get retrospective0
