Hi
I got fed up of unbranded (ebay) cartridges constantly saying not recognised in my Epson sx100 printer and even tho' cheep I was changing them every 5 mins, so I brought a pack of Tesco brand compatable ones.
4 x the price but if they last longer its still cheeper.
Been using it fine for over a week now...and up pops the not compatable box!!!!!
Now I don't want to putting in a new cartridge at these prices every few days...I can hear ink in the cartridge, tried putting it in again, unplugging to clear memory etc., but printer still won't recognise it.
Is this the printers way of saying its really empty or can I get a refund if printer won't recognise them as I brought a pack of 4?
Any advice appreciated!

Just answered my own problem!! Put in a new cartridge and out dropped a small bit of paper saying this message is normal when empty and to replace the ink! Sorry for wasted thread, but I didn't see it when I put in first cartridge.I have always relied on the kindness of strangers0

I got really fed up with my Epson SX100. The cost of genuine cartridges is shocking and they seemed to last no time. I was just about to replace mine for the umpteenth time when I noticed it would be cheaper to buy a new HP 3050A which was on offer.
I am really pleased with the HP. It seems to be better quality, quieter and ink lasts much longer than in my old Epson."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Removing the USB lead from the back of the printer for a minute may help0

I have the same message with my works Dell multi function & compatibles, only replace cartridges when they stop producing images.0 -
mumpig it depends on where you get your compatibles from.
i have a sx200 epson and i bought my compatibles from ink-power through ebay. and i have never had the not epson genuine window come up once.
the cartridges a pack of 14, thats 3sets + 2 extra black, where version 7 chipped.
still working, they have a shelf life of 2years, this is my 3rd year, they also contain about 18ml each.
If you want extra life on your cartridges no matter what inkjet printer you have, may i suggested getting a program called Inksaver not freeware but a commerical program, used to reduce the amount of ink used in printing. higher the saving the lighter the ink use. currently mine is set to 33% saving. can be set right upto 75%, but normal use without to much of a defrag in quality would be 33%, 50-55% would be draft.
to missile, while the HP may last slightly longer on ink it will cost more to run than the epsons
epson compatibles are at the moment probably the cheapest to buy at 50p per cartridge and with upto 21ml per cartridge depending on seller.
compare that to the £20 for refilled HP cartridges. and you'll start to know.0
