A year touring Europe in a Camper for £14.41 per person, per day!

Hey MSE,
We've just come back from a year travelling Europe in a camper van through 18 countries and 23,000 miles.
We tracked every penny of our expenditure as we were doing so on a relatively tight budget. We wanted to share this with you because we felt that we had actually spent less travelling Europe then we do living day to day back here in the UK! The perceived high cost of such a trip is what puts so many people off so we wanted to show what was possible.

Our blog has no adverts and we hope you find it interesting if you are you thinking about a similar trip.
All the best!

Brilliant! Had a read of your blog and can't believe the level of detail. I hope that this gets picked up and put in the newsletter, it is truly deserving of a wide readership. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Brilliant thanks you.
(I'd would have gone for sub £14 of course)0 -
did you sleep in there every night? Don't think i could manage for a weekend never mind a year. Mind you you could take a tent and have a bit more space and if you don't mind being in there it's certainly a cheap way of doing it and gives you a lot of freedom. What do you about toilet and washing facilities when you're camped on a beach (or shouldn't we ask!)?0

Hey Melb,
Yes, every night!
There is a full size permanently made up double bed which with your own pillows and bedding, far better than sleeping in a hotel in my opinion. We spent most of our time exploring outside and the van is simply used for driving, eating, sleeping and washing (in a full sized hot shower).
The van holds 90 litre of fresh water, 80 litres of waste water and enough toilet capacity for 5 days so is totally self sufficient in that respect and is still under 6m so can fit into a regular parking space.
If you can wake up to views like this free of charge, what more is there to ask for (we're parked far left).0 -

Do I take it you have nil experience of camper vans? Almost anything recent will be more luxurious than a Travelodge or Premier Inn for example (other doss-houses are available). The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
you're right i don't have any experience of campervans. I do however have limited experience of premier inns for example at county hall where i spent £69 for a family room in the may school holidays and enjoyed a huge room overlooking london eye, Southbank and the river which we enjoyed in fact for a doss-house it was rather splendid. i have also seen assorted campervans camped together on rough parts of beaches spoiling the view of the coast along the scenic coastline north of Valencia with their washing lines and assorted belongings strewn all over the place. Still it's not costing them anything so that's all right then and they are able to enjoy the hospitality of the local area without contributing anything by cooking sausages on their camping stoves - the long winter nights must fly by!0

sounds like another interfering do-gooder who wants to impose their way of life on the rest of us...The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
