There's a couple to uninstall and update to the newest version.

start orb > control panel > programs and features.
    Adobe Reader 8
Uninstall this and download and install the latest Adobe reader.

    (Uncheck the Mcafee security scan)
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Uninstall this and update to the latest version of Java.

    Hello again waddler_8

Sorry for taking so long. (Smile)
I've deleted old Java and Adobe and replace both.

Did you manage to browse through my other notepad download before I lost my nerve and deleted it, if not I will put it on here again without it being in a zip file if it is safe to do so ?

You see... I don't know if there is anything in it that would enable someone to get into my computer especially when it says ...
UNLESS SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCTED, DO NOT POST THIS LOG.
IF REQUESTED, ZIP IT UP & ATTACH

Next thing for me to do is to download a newer version of IE but I will get this sorted first ( one step at a time)

Sorry for being an old fuddyduddy ;)
P.S. Where do I look to uncheck the Mcafee security scan

Dont worry there's no information there to personally identify you or give any way to hack your computer. ;) Some forums just like the information to be zipped & attached.

That was on the Adobe reader download page? Or are you offered something different?

You'll continue to get them 'til you have them all.

I've notice that when I updated Java I also inherited ASK toolbar on my Google home page
I have tried to uninstall it in programes and features with no success .
Checking on the web there are numerous downloads to get it erased but which will be safe to used " any idea's"

If you've failed to uninstall it through programs & features, go into Internet Explorer and disable it through Manage add-ons.

If you laptop was originally running Vista, then how would installing W7 get it back to 'where it was before'?
By all means buy and install W7 if you like, but it's a separate operation-nothing to do with Windows Updates. All WU will do is to update Vista to the latest version.
I think you are maybe confusing Windows 7 with IE7? One is an operating system, the other is a web browser.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

    No problem.

What problems are you still having? What prompted you to restore to factory settings in the first instance?
