hi guys
was looking at fishfingers in the supermarket, expecting the value ones to be filled up with loads or junk and have a lot less fish than the more expensive ones, but they both contained the same amount of fish. The only difference was that the more expensive ones were cod and the cheaper ones were pollack. What is the difference? Is there any reason to go for cod over pollack?
thanks, yp

Whilst the main difference appears to be between the cod and the pollack, I can only imagine that they would seek to use the worst quality pieces in the value fish fingers. Aside from that, they will almost certainly be using minced fish, which if you can afford a non-minced alternative must surely be better.0

The fish fingers in Lidl look good value.0

I generally only buy birds eye as they say they are 100% cod fillet, where as tesco(where I shop most) are just cod fillet and as you say the value ones say pollack. I dont think theres any difference in price in buying tesco or birdseye, just the value ones considerably cheaper. I also stock up when there on offer. And as above it is also a matter of taste.0

from an ethical- esque point of view, if Pollack is more plentiful as people say, and Cod is rarely out of the news for being over-fished, and stocks near collapse, why not opt for Pollack?
I eat the Value (pollack) FF, they are as nice as can be. Not huge, but you get what you pay for!

Take a break (issue8) they rated fish fingers and morrisons haddock fish fingers in crunchy crumb won with 10/10..£1.25 for 10.... anyone tried them?"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0

Cod or Haddock fillet, Deep joy to the to the gastric juices but don't give me any of that old Pollack:rotfl:0

I have to say, I'm not too bothered by the cod vs pollack thing, fish is fish.
(edit: that is to say, I'd be happy to eat pollack fish fingers given the overfishing of cod etc)
What I am bothered about is the quality of the fish.
If it's between a nice little bit of fillet and the sweepings off the fish factory floor, I'll go for the fillet every time.0 -
Lidl fish fingers are cut from whole pieces of Alaskan pollock.
A lot of other brands that claim Cod are made from left over pieces of cod that have been "reformed".
Much prefer the ones from Lidl.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
The Lidl ones are fine.
What I wont buy is the minced fish ones bleurgh0
