Help needed after doing a system restore

I have done a system restore after DS downloaded messenger live it has restored back to a previous point and I have also tried to undo the restore but it hasnt worked.

Now nothing seems to be working the internet is so slow I cant apply my desk top picture or a screen saver I also have this baloon popping up all the time saying (click this icon to check whether this is a reported phishing website) my number 2 on my keyboard is now my @ which has swopped with what should be my @.

It seems it is only on my desk top where the problem is everyone elses seems fine.

Please can someone help as I havnt got a clue.

Hi Blondie

for future ref, best way to remove an installed programme is to un-install it via Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.

Next in Control Panel >> User Accounts - create a NON-admin account for your DS and put a password on the Administrator(s) account, if still there, and your account. This will stop DS loading programmes.

After the system restore - have you done Windows Update to reload any patches. How far did you do back ?

Quick solution to desktop - Consider giving yourself a new (Admin) account and new desktop as it seems the profile may have become corrupted. Do not delete the current account till you have all your docs and pics.

I think I can help with keyboard, if you're on XP, go to

control panel> regional/languages and change to English(UK), you are probably on US keyboard thus the different key functions.

I think for other Windows it will be control panel> keyboard.

Forgot - sound like you mayy have set the keybrd to USA English

In Control Panel ....Start >> Settings >> Control panel >> Regional and language Options >> Languages Tab >> Details Button. set to English (UK)

Note that the keys Left-Alt and Shift may also change the keybrd layout/language settings

Thanks for your replys I have done what you's have suggested and it has worked for some things but some of the other stuff is still not working properly but I will leave it for the minute.
