Most of what you say is correct Caz, there is no point wasting what we have.

I just don't hold with the argument that man is responsible.

On the subject of Nuclear, I am a supporter, I believe we should follow the French example. They have 59 reactors and produce the majority of their electricity from this source.

    Just to clarify:

I simply don't KNOW the extent of man's responsibility, and neither does anyone else, so I wouldnt want be associated with your side of the argument. However the same statements endlessly repeated by the uninformed 'prophets of doom' do nothing to convince me.

As it happens I tend to agree with the proponents of Nuclear energy. Clearly the opponents also have valid arguments; but this is a subject where emotion overides logic for many people.

Turn that on its head and you could just as easily find it a little arrogant that mankind believes it is able to change the earth as much as it has without altering the global ecosystem for thousands of years to come.

Bearing in mind that the Flat Earth Society still has members, you may wish to visit Wikipedia's list of scientists who disagree that man-made global warning is taking place - and count them.

And, considering that the consequences of doing nothing and finding out that we are responsible are so much worse than the consequences of doing things and finding that we aren't responsible, the logic of which Cardew speaks should dictate that we should be doing something about it.
its [sic] not trendy you see
I've been banging on about energy conservation for a lot longer than it's been "trendy" to do so. Dismissing something because it is "trendy" is not an argument which holds water.
if indeed it is getting warmer does that not mean less energy will be used. Heating in colder countries will not be required (air con in hotter places will increase)
My emphasis - you've just answered your own question. Care to visit the indoor ski slope in Dubai?
will we not be able to grow crops currently flown thousands of miles to our supermarkets.
Not if we're trying to grow them in a desert rather than on fertile land.
In short, won't it be better when its warmer?
When we're suffering from tropical diseases such as malaria, and our houses are being devoured by termites? Or the Gulf Stream stops and our winters in fact become as cold as those in Canada? I don't think so.

I hope you see that your arguments are terribly simplistic.

As this is simple discussion forum I really find your use of sic, which should be (sic) rather snotty and a little superior, anyhow.

Simplistic discussion is often the best, during the course of this thread we have not reduced ourselves to the slinging of statistics, just opinion based on our belief and trust of politicians and scientist. Two groups who have historically been wrong about a great many things.

I shall continue to keep it simple whilst giving due consideration to the multitude of complex arguments surrounding this issue and refer you back to the question, won't it be better if it gets hotter ?
  • give over!

gromituk answered the question elquently and with excellent clarity.

me thinks that mjr600 just wanted the last word.
