I purchased a set of ikea low energy bulbs 5 years ago and with use most days they are still the original ones.

I have been using them for many years(when they cost a fortune) had lots of failures in the past with Osram and they were certainly a poor buy.

I bought 2 weeks ago some 'Supalite' 11W screw fitting with a supposed 8,000 hour life and 2 have already gone u/s.(not used with dimmers)

Obviously you should take back bulbs which fail within 2 weeks - that's completely unacceptable. But there are circumstances in which your house wiring can cause bulbs to fail - this happened with our tenants' house due to a short circuit in one of the light fittings. So, I'd consider that if the bulb failures were in the same light fittings all the time.

Agreed about taking them back - trouble is they were from a shop 30 odd miles away that I called in when passing. I can't find any details of supalite on-line and the box gives no detail

They were in different sockets in a 3 arm light fitting. However, whilst my electrical theory is a little rusty, I can't see how how a short in a light fitting would cause a bulb to blow and not trip the ELCB.
