Anyone else share the experience of these breaking after 12 months? Or is it just me?

no idea about the ikea ones, as i have never used them, but i did have one from morrisons which blew after about 12months....I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I hate those Ikea lights! We used to have them when I shared a flat, and because they were so awful (dim, weird light and took ages to warm up) I really resisted getting more energy efficient lights. I think I do remember them not lasting very long either...
I have some Phillips ones now that are quite nice (about £2 at Lidl) but my Lidl only does them in 100W which is a bit much for every room!0 -
The lights which I swear by are bio bulbs they have an average life of several years, they emmit natural light so they're easy on the eyes and great if your a SAD suffer like me. You can get them in 40,60 and 100watts and they're priced around £15 each but £15 isn't alot considering the life the bulb has.
The cheapest website I could find with the bulbs on is linked below

my Ikea ones are still lasting well - we've not changed any since moving here nearly 4 years ago and most of those came from the old house. The non-energy saving one in the bathroom though we've had to change twice since moving.0

My Ikea one is also lasting well. I used it for about a year in my bedroom when I shared a house, so it got a lot of use. Now its in the hall way and has been for 2 years.0

i think that how you use them, determines the life of the bulb as well. You should leave it on for a minimum time, no switching on and off quickly, someone will come and tell me I am wrong or give more prescise times, but 15-20 mins springs to mind.“Pleasure of love lasts but a moment, pain of love lasts a lifetime.”0

I have bought about 6 of these bulbs from Ikea and have had 2 failures.
I have 2 light sockets connected to one switch, both with identical ikea bulbs. One of the bulbs stopped working after 6 months and the other one is still working fine. Another bulb in another room failed after 12 months. I had planned to take them back to ikea and query this but have put it off so long that I ended up throwing them away.0 -

For your info you may just have been unlucky.
Most bulbs will be rated with an average hourly useage rate/life expectancy.
Ie. Many GU10 Halogen bulbs are rated for 1,000 hours, 1,500 hours etc.
You tend to pay more for bulbs with a higher rated number of hours of life expectancy, BUT the way this is calculated is as follows.
The manufcaturer takes say 100 bulbs and switches them all on. Of the 100, one might fail straight away, a few after a few hours, some will last for hundreds of hours, the majority will last for say 1000 hours, a few will last for 1,500 hours and the odd one perhaps even 2,000. They take the sum total of the number of hours that all the bulbs have lasted and work out the mean. This is then the average life expectancy.
Now you can be unlucky and get a batch of bulbs that are only going to last half the average or you could get the converse and get a bunch that last 50% longer. Its the luck of the draw but in the main you should get the average.
However I know that there are certain bulbs in my house of the same make and purchased at the same time that get the same use that have lasted 3- 4 times longer than some others. I also have had some that have gone within 24 hours. Its pot luck.

I fitted lots of ikea bulbs when I moved into my flat 3 years ago, they were constantly blowing. I noticed that there was only one original bulb left which had never been replaced. This was left from the previous owner and was an energy saving bulb. I now have a flat full of energy saving light bulbs and refuse to use regular ones.0
