Ive still a long way to go before I can make a decision. As lifeforms has indicated a Kindle is easier on the eyes and having read some of the reviews I can well see the benefit of a dedicated e-reader.
But I also need a gadget that is good for surfing the internet and allows for playing a few games and I have to say that the wifi Xoom that lifeforms has, looks good for this purpose.
At the moment I am thinking that I may need to invest in two gadgets, an e-reader and also a tablet that is good for other things.
Still a long way to go but the advice given here has been invaluable in pointing the way forwards.0 -

Don't get confused; the Kindle Fire has a normal, backlit screen like the iPad. All of the other Kindle's, however, are e-readers with e-ink screens.0 -
Another vote for the xoom here. I use mine as a satnav sometimes (sygic) I can also use my android phone (xperia arc s) as a wireless hotspot and connect my XOOM that way0

Hi, Great info guys. I have a similar question. I have a iPad (1st gen) and thinks its great for everything. Surfing the web especially, RSS feeds, iPlayer etc. And i would highly recomend this, in fact i will prob upgrade to the newest iPad some time soon, i am very tight with money for these tyoe of things however and generally buy them on eBay second hand from someone in the UK with an excellent feed back score and that has worked really well for me thus for, (touching wood here).
My question is, we have a van on the road collecting and delivering furniture from our online shop and I really want to have the invoices from the collections the lorry makes emailed over to our office straight after he has done his collection. (For stock purposes etc)
Now, as i am not wanting to throw silly money at this i would prefer not to buy an Apple product but get something else, may be a samsung galaxy. HAve looked at these on eBay but they are just as ££ as iPads for some reason. :-(
Has anyone experience of the camera and 3G on alternative tablets and could they recommend anything? Driver had a SAT nav already.
Thanks for any help or tips!
Cheers. Eunan.0 -
erm not really. But what i will say, you will want a 3g enabled device, whatever tablet you go for. You will not want the driver having to sit around and run up tethering, or a mifi device and then connect it, it will add on time each time he does it.
So whatever tablet you are looking at for that purpose, go for a 3G device, make your drivers life easier, not harder. Also you would need to consider which provider you go for, depending on the areas he is in. Some may work better than others, and you don't really want a dead spot if you want instant invoices through instantly after each drop/collection.
The other consideration you should have is the time it takes to actually email off. He will be sat around doing nothing for this time, and even if it's a few mins because we're not talking about broadband speed, per drop/collection, over the day will add up, and you should also ask the driver if he's willing to do this. It might be 3G device, but I doubt you will get 3G wherever you go, unless you're only doing it around very busy areas, like city, reasonably large towns.
You would want to consider something fairly hard wearing, so decent build quality, and a decent protective case too. Then probably a charger in car/lorry on top.
It sounds like as this is a business you might need to consider business tariffs regarding 3G, purely down to the fact of how much data you might shift over a month doing it this way.
I'd have concerns about how easy it would be to actually photo the invoice to email it as well. Presumably he wont have a nice flat desk where he can take a few mins to get the optimal picture of it!0
