I love my reusable nappies and have converted my OH too. We have had little problem with leaks and problems. I have a selection, having started with the Nappy Lady, then i found weepickles which sells very cheap and very cute nappies.

If you get the right ones, they can be just as convenient as disposables, with possibly and added 5 mins of effort every few days and some more washing. In the summer you can hang them on the line to dry and the sun helps bleach them clean as well, so I really would recommend them to any mum.

I've got ebay cheapies (pocket nappies), some kushies (all in ones), some fluffies (think they are called- with a wrap). I have twins and find it fine. Also use reusable wipes as one of my LOs has eczema. I actually find the ebay ones the best fit and the easiest. My council did the cashback thing and accepted a signed ebay receipt and also a handwritten receipt from someone who I got the 2nd hand ones off.

I would aim to try some out first but to be fair ive only paid about 60 quid in total ( I have about 20 nappies) and claimed 25 back from council.

We were lucky enough to have a nappylady in our area so could see the nappies first :-) have a look and see if theres a cloth nappy group in your area.

We love our lolipop nappies but spent to get them all new.

Check with your local council. Many run nappy schemes. I got a dozen prefold nappies, a bucket, nappy liners and 3 waterproof covers for £20.
I only had to upgrade to bigger prefolds once and I just swapped them -no cost to me.

I found tons of pre-loved nappies at ukparentslounge.co.uk.

The National Birthtrust association runs "almost-new" sales and I found some fantastic bargains there.:D

Must say that after a bit I stopped using paper nappy liners and used fleece liners instead (washable and poo doesn't stick to fleece). You don't need to buy any fancy premade liners, go to your local pound shop and get a fleece baby or pet blanket. Cut to size and presto. Tons of liners for very little. It worked for me.
