Motherboard

Anyone got any helpful opinions on this motherboard, good idea to load it with an E6600 and an 8800GTX?

Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 motherboard

In addition, i don't think it's SLI capable so in future would it be pretty easy to switch the MOBO? you know once it's both financially viable and needed to have 2 8800GTX's running about

thanks!

That's a big question. Although it is quite easy to switch one, the longer you keep the motherboard the harder it becomes to switch because technology moves on.

I wouldn't bother with SLI. By the time you can afford a second card, there'll be a new generation of cards out, and you'll be better of selling your current card and upgrading than buying a second card.

The S3 is an ok board. You may also want to have a look at its bigger brother the DS3. That's the board I have, very competent overclocker. I've got my E6300 running faster than an E6700 and it barely breaks sweat. The DS3 or Asus P5B are both excellent intel based boards.

I personally would go for an E6400 to save a little, then get a better motherboard. The E6400 is the best overclocker at the moment. The E4300 is another bargain overclocker.

Don't get the GA-945P-S3 get the GA-965P-DS3. The 965 chipset is far better than the 945 chipset. Much better for overclocking if that's what you want to do. i'd also agree with wolfman re the processor get an E4300 (that's what i have, overclocked by 30% on the standard fan so far) or an E6300 or E6400.

Bill was one who recommended this board to me when I posted earlier this month, asking for opinions. I can say, so far it's been a great buy and is very overclockable.
