Can anyone tell me what to do.

Firstly i am sorry to post a thread that no doubt has nothing to do with this forum ; However i am a new member and as yet i have not worked out how to start a new Forum  .
Please understand i am at my wits end and have no idea what i can do with my problem.
I am a 44yo man with a family who works as a daytime Bottleshop supervisor/Bar manager.
I have a wonderful job that i depend on to provide for my family and myself ; however my job is under threat from a fellow employee who is a [ bad person ] and whom seems to be trying to get me the sack for no reason i can think of - other than he feels threatened by me.
This person works as a store-person of a day and then takes over in the Bottleshop of an evening when i finish for the day.
He does steal from the place i work for, has attempted to take money out of my till on one occassion when he asked me if i would work right through and do his night shift [ Setting me up with money missing out of my till ]. I reported this with another manager verifying the whole thing ; But the owner confronted this other employee and the money [ $200 ] magically was put back in the till while i went on a 30 minute break.
This person sells drugs, uses them while at work as eveyone knows, but nothing is ever done about it by management. They seem to be too scared to act without proof which i understand and even when you report something, nothing is done and i am now a bit scared to say anything.
Now this other employee is sending people in who are obviously on drugs etc and are trying to claim i have served them in the Bottleshop or bar and charged them too much money or never given them the correct change from a purchase.
None of these people are persons i have ever served, but it is a case of my word against theirs. This seems to be his latest plan to get rid of me.
The hotel i work at is a large privately owned hotel and i can only think that this person is trying to get me fired, so he can get one of his friends my job and then that way they can rip-off the hotel by taking liquer from the bottleshop and stores/cellar ! Also money from till and also sell drugs from premise as there is a lot of people that use hotel bith locally and visitors. [ This hotel believe it or not, does not do a stock-take on food or alcohol sales ]
I cant afford to lose my job as i have a big morgage and a family to support ; I just dont know what to do if this person manages to get me fired.
I know the owners [ for some strange reason ] seem to trust him : But i just wish i knew of a way to show his true colours and motives to the owners of the hotel without them or him knowing it is me that is behind catching him out.
He does scare me and i worry if i went to police etc that he may harm me or worse my family.
Please can anyone out there help me with any advice.
Thanks, Chris.

From your spellings I presume you're in USA? Are you in a union? If so, you could ask the local representative for advice, who could maybe ask for a transfer to another hotel/ bar in the chain for you.
Alternatively, ask your manager to install discrete CCTV, some cameras nowadays can be very, very small & linked to a PC hardrive to record and (in the UK) if they have a date/ time stamp on the image, can be used to support a dismissal or prosecution. From MSE Martin - Some General Tips On Holiday Home Organisations and Sales Meetings

Hi there and thanks for your post. I actually live in Cairns Australia. I am not an American, just a plain old Aussie.
Here in Australia our laws are not very good when it comes to Work-place issues.
Our new Industrial Relation Laws now make it hard to do anything if an employer sacks you. If you work for a company that has 100 employee's or less ; There is nothing you can do if your employment is terminated for whatever reason. If you want to challange your employer, you need a lot of money any a good lawyer [ Both i dont have ]
The owners of the hotel i work for mploy 80 staff and have no other hotels. Your advice is sound, but hard to enact.
Thanks anyway.

It will be best to look at a website relevant to your country. Laws here are different to that in Australia, and may not be applicable to you.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0

Hi Chris welcome to MSE. I think if i was in your position i would be looking for a new job elsewhere and once moved i would definitely tip the police off, what he is doing selling drugs could take someones life. Stealing alcohol is for the hotel to deal with but where drugs are concerned we all have a certain amount of responsibility because of what it can lead to, having said that i do understand your fears.
It's a small world we live in, i have family in Cairns and also in Perth:D My cousin is a good lawyer but he's in Perth0 -
In case he does set you up again, would it be possible to set down in writing what you have told us here (do you have any organizations that give free legal advice?) just to put it in writing, for the record. If anything did happen,it may act as a previously written account of your experiences.I would look for another job.0

To everyone who posted a reply to my problem. A big thankyou. I realize that it is best to begin the search for a new job now while it is not to late. A lot more has happened with this person towards me and my job ; So i realize it best to move on before my reputation and honesty is lost through this low-life.
I do intend to tip off the police when the time comes about his drug dealings, but for now i think it best to concerntrate on myself , my family and my future.0 -
Chris, you're right to put yourself and your family in first place. I can sympathise with how uncomfortable this colleague's behaviour is making you and your employers are clearly not taking charge of the situation.
Good luck with finding a new job.
But do follow the advice above about keeping a diary of incidents from now on till you leave this job. It's an insurance policy - it will be possible to identify a pattern in this person's behaviour towards you.
Cheers and good luckHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MoneySavingExpert Forum Team0
