Barclays Verified By Visa

Hi

Just used My Premier Connect Visa Debit on a site and it went through to Verified by Visa and it said "Password not required low risk" then processed the transaction as normal.

Is this good or what does it mean?

Verified by Visa and the Mastercard 3D secure have certain thresholds in terms of how much you're spending before they're enforced.

Retailers can pay a small amount extra if they want VbV or M3DS to reduce their fraud risk but my guess would be the transaction value in your case was not very large and the retailer doesn't mind if it's not filled in as you're low risk so to speak.

Funny you should mention this, I ain't been asked to enter ANY info for VbV for months and months, then today it starts asking me three questions, like which address have I been associated with and which county have I lived in etc? Seems a bit odd to me!

That is odd. The three questions I get asked are for three characters from my VbV password. If you're being asked for other information you're either resetting your password or you're sharing your details with a third party, who may use them to reset your VbV password.

Mine started doing this a few months ago too - for everything, including substantial payments to BarclayCard. No idea what changed or why, after something like 10 years of identical use!

But that's my point I've not been asked for my password in months!

Yes it would seem some time last year they changed it to automatically process for low risk orders, that meaning low value orders or orders within your usual spending pattern/from your usual shops. No need to be alarmed by the 3 questions, thats the reason why I prefer to use my barclays debit online because if you make an order over the threshold amount or different from your normal spending it will ask you 3 questions that only you could possibly know, an address you have ever been associated with etc. Others just ask for card details and date of birth like my lloyds card. If you do want to just use a password everytime you can google your banks verified by visa registration page.

ok, to add to what I put above, it now appears that every single one of these payments have created the following search on Equifax:

Identity Check to comply with Anti Money Laundering Regulations by Barclays Bank Plc-emc Computer S.

On the phone to them now to try and figure out why all of a sudden this is creating 5 searches in one day when I am not making any payments outside of my regular spending paterns.
