  • The site looks legit enough, all I would say is expect to pay import duty on top of that. Most people I know who have imported a PS3 have been hit by customs. It should be around £85 but I know some who have been billed over £130.

By the time you pay the duty your very close to UK pricing.
  • I don't think the PS3 is going to be worth the money initially, I'd buy a Wii, or an XBox 360, depending on what sort of games you're into.
  • Personally, I wouldn't buy the first batch into the country.

Inevitably these will be the most unreliable of the complete production run with unforseen problems and faults. Instead, I would hold off for a few months until some more batches arrive, hopefully by then any production problems will have been identified and sorted out.

  • do imported ps3's play uk bought games? or do sony stop this? is there a way around it if they do? as im off to the states next month and hubby didnt know whether to buy one or not?

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    sal:)
  • Nope, not unless they're chipped, which I don't think you can discuss on here due to it's dubious legality.
  • Dont bother the PS3 is a bag of nails.
  • so the US consoles are blocked so we cant play european games but the HK consoles arent blocked so we can play european games on it?

Im I right in saying this?

    many thanks

Too risky. As said, you will get a big VAT bill for import and if something goes wrong with it you have more problems. SONY really, REALLY do not like people importing their products and will not help you should the PS3 break down. Buy British if you HAVE to, but be warned, the European PS3's are not as good as JAP/US versions as they use different chips, which means you cannot play an unknown number of PS2 games on them. You may think so what, I want to play PS3 games, but should you want to play Pro Evo with your mates, you may not be able too.

For the price of a PS3, you could get a 360 AND a Wii...
  • @Sal

Ps3 is completly different from ps2.

Ps3 uses blu ray which isnt region locked(like hd dvd) that is why its region free ps2 is region locked so is you buy a u.s ps2 you will need to buy u.s games ;)

  • so on a ps3 can you play any games from any country? As my family alway to to u.s.a so I could get loads games.I see sony don't like people to import stuff but if companies did not overcharge for the same good as other country then there would not be a problem I mean for example I been searching cheapest ive seen so far is £424 and expensive so far is £524 exactly the same deal so why is it hundred pounds more expensive. in the usa the ps3 is $600 that about £300 quid why does England alway get riped off.
