Full rewire of my house - what should I look to pay?

Hi,

I've just moved into a house (3 bedroom mid-1950s build) and it needs rewiring including fuseboards and all the other bits that go in there (sorry not really sure of all the jargon!)

The total requirement is:

  • 12 light switches
  • 2 outside lights/switches
  • 16 double sockets
  • Cooker and hob circuits
  • Shower circuit
  • Central heating supply
  • New fuseboard with RCS and MCBs for each circuit
I've had one quote for £2500 and another for £2100. The more expensive one has payment options (hence the extra cost) and can also start straight away which is preferable to me. It also includes a wireless burglar alarm though I'm aware these aren't all that expensive or difficult to fit yourself and I don't particularly want one but I'll have it if it's included.

Any suggestions? I'm in Liverpool so not sure what a fair price is for the job.

  • Sound reasonable to me, check they are part p reg and will provide certs.
  • Check on the level of finish. E.g. Will they all do the same level of chasing and making good. Do you want them to do the making good?

Also, my advice would be to get more sockets. Assuming you have a kitchen and lounge, that is only about 3 sockets per room. Bet you end up wishing you had more!

Sounds reasonable price, re smokes there not that cheap cost between £20 - £30 each excluding cable and wouldn't fit them your self unless your competent in electrics, also you normally have a heat detector in your kitchen which comes under part p
