PPI Creditcard SAR - End of the road?

Guys, just a quick one re the above.

I have had an SAR returned today from Barclaycard. The account is an old account and I dont have any paperwork re the credit card account number.

Barclaycard have said that without card number they cannot do anything further.

I have provided them with the usual details, address the card was taken out from, date of birth and also done an experian check and taken the details from there and passed them to Barclaycard (the credit limit on the card and the account start and end date).

Basically just wondered if there is anything else I can do with this in order to look at whether I was charged PPI or not.

Let me know what you think. Cheers

Luke

If they have no record of you in filing system that will allow them to identify it from what you have told them and you have no documentation of your own then you are not going to be able to prove that you even had an account with them, let alone PPI or that it was missold.
  • Thanks for the reply, Im guessing the fact my experian report says I had a Barclaycard wont count as proof I had an account?

The only other thing I can think of is that I toiok my current account out at the same time as the credit card. I used to pay off my monthly credit card bill using my current account which is still active so I might do a SAR on my current account and see if any of the payments are detailed on there. Worth it or a waste of time?

It is (or at least was) common for financial institutions to keep records in microfiche held in account number order.

If you have a name it will not help somebody to search for it unless, possibly, there is some kind of coding to that number and the person searching knows it.

If, on the other hand, you have the account number then the filing system becomes "relevant" because you have provided a means by which to identify your data.

So unless Experian can give you the account number, I do not think you will get very far.

You may get the card number from the payments that you made from your bank to the cc, when i pay mine through the bank the card number is the reference number, if the bank still have this info, may be worth £10 for a Sar to find out, then you can give the card number to Barclays.
