Travel insurance over 60 days

We have family in Oz - travel there for longer than 2 months at a time. Hold annual travel insurance which has a 60 day trip limit . Has anyone got experience of getting an extension to a 60 day trip limit policy - either with the existing insurer - or as a top up elsewhere.
Or has anyone experience of getting the annual policy to cover the first 60 days of the trip - ie outward travel and 59 more days - logically this cover would seem reasonable - rather than excluding all cover if the trip was say 65 days - I accept that homeward flight and anything going wrong after 60 days would not be covered if the entire trip was for more than a 60 day trip

can you not get a 12 month policy?

I cannot remember the details, but I regularly went to australia for 3-4 months at a time 10-15 yrs ago, had an annual policy

That won't work.

The cover is for "the whole duration of a return trip" (or similar words), and the maximum length of a "trip" will be defined.

Dont forget you house insurance is normally limited to 30 days (im sure you know)

You probably need long stay or backpacker's insurance.

Call up the insurer you are with already and ask them, they may extend the number of days for a fee of course

Also check your home insurance, you might only be covered for 30days away from home, if so, get someone you trust to sleep over for the night and that should reset that clock. Or call them and ask if they can extend as well, although if you are away that long i would get someone to check on it now and then just in case

I just put long stay travel insurance into google, many options, which will cover you for that length of time, so have a look there

Thx tigger for trying - although google produces "long stay" quotes - when you check -- it turns out that they usually mean a maximum of 60 days ( which is what we currently have ). I was hoping to get a reply from someone who has cast iron personal knowledge of any provider willing to either cover more than 60 days - or allow a top up policy to be purchased. I have tried with my lot already to do this - and the answer is No .

You cannot get any "top up" cover (if you mean to "take over" after your 60 days - as posted above, your 60 days cover you now have cannot be used like you suggest, and has to be the max. length of your complete return trip)

But single trip cover can be easily found for holidays in excess of 2 months (eg direct travel will cover any length up to 365 days)
