AA cover (or similar) for my wife

Hi,
I've been a member of the AA for years. Joining was one of the most money saving things I've ever done.
My wife has now passed her test and so is driving more often. Mainly just locally, but sometimes out with the children for the day. Our car is an S reg, so liable to conk out (though it's been doing well recently!), so definitely worth getting cover.
Options:
1. Add my wife to my AA policy.
2. Take out a new policy for my wife with the AA or similar.
I'm wondering whether option 2 might be cheaper than option 1. Does anyone know what the best deal is at the moment, e.g. with cashback, Tesco points, etc?
£42 with the AA less £19 cashback looks pretty good. [Can't do the £30 AA option as our car is more than 10 years old.] But is there better?
If my wife has a policy with a different organisation and we are out together, can we phone both companies and see who will get there first!?
Thanks,
Jim

RAC cover with Tesco Clubcard points. You get 3x face value so for a £30 policy you only need £10 of Clubcard vouchers. The level of service is exactly the same.0

Often on the bag of the Saturday/Sunday papers AA and RAC
advertise £29 plus £15 voucher back.
I did this last year with AA, I will cancel and do the same deal with RAC, then go back next year to the AA.
It totally depends what cover you want, the above covers basic breakdown.
Have you asked how much it is to put her car onto your own policy.
Worth a telephone call at least.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Do you only have the one car which you share?
If so just ask the AA to change your membership from Personal Membership (this applies for any vehicle you are travelling in) to Vehicle membership (which covers a named vehicle regardless of the driver).0 -
Yes, just the one car, so that's worth thinking about.
Will phone them later...0 -
Roadside assistnace + home breakdown + recovery of vehicle and passengers to destination of your choice + any caravan/trailer.
All above is covered for you and spouse for any car you may be driving.
Total is £36 for 1 year with Autoaid. Moneysavingexpert best deal

Ooh, tempting, scotsbob.
But we've got the "parts and garage" from the AA and wouldn't want to give that up with the state of our car. So will be sticking with them for my policy, at least.0 -
Best to make sure you're happy with the terms and conditions of the "parts and garage" cover as some policies don't cover wear and tear/consumable parts.0

How do you get that?
I've never seen cover for £10 worth of points.
Cheapest it's been on the clubcard website has been £18 for basic roadside for years.
Compared to £39 direct from the RAC for cash. Or with £5 cashback just £34.
Personally, I'd keep the points, get AA cover for £42, get £21 cashback, and just spend £21 overall.0 -
admiral is trying to upsell me national plus cover for £72.95, I went on rac website and saw similar package for £39. But it doesn't really say whether it's national cover or not.
What's the best, are all these the same? Is admiral just going to use AA/RAC to carry out the work and pretty much offer the same service as they're offering?>0 -

Haven't had to use it yet, but when I took it out I confirmed that the last two things that went wrong on the car would have been covered.0
