eBay / PayPal Headache

Hi Guys,
I purchased an item on the 18th, the seller has good feedback etc, I was very pleased to have won the auction.
However, the RRP for the said item is around £400, I placed a maximum bid of £380, I went on to win the item for £220, this made me a little sceptical that something wasn’t right.
A friend of mines who has the same item advised me that it is definitely a counterfeit as there are a number of discrepancies that he pointed out in the image.
I contacted the seller immediately (prior to dispatch) who agreed to refund my purchase, however it appears that the refund is being initiated via bank transfer thus the payment is pending.
I understand that a refund via bank transfer would only be done if the seller did not have the funds in their Paypal account.
My concern is why Paypal did not stop the seller’s withdrawal request? The payment and refund was made in a space of 14 hours.
Surely it would make sense for the withdrawal to be cancelled and for the necessary amount to be adjusted considering that all this happened in a space of 14 hours.
Furthermore, it is rather disappointing that eBay is in such a poor state that the vast majority of items are bootleg and counterfeit! Even items that you would think could not possibly be fake.

PayPal won't just cancel a pending transfer for a refund, the money will come back via a transfer back from the account.
Perfectly normal, happens to me a lot as I move money from PP as soon as I can.
How do you know the 'vast majority' of items are fake? That statement isn't true. Over 50% of things on eBay are not fake.0 -

With the Amazon Marketplace, if a seller issues a refund (which I have done as a seller) and there are insufficient funds in his/her account, the refund will still go through but the sellers account will be in minus balance. As a seller this is not a huge problem as they would allow you sufficient amount of time to cover the negative balance.
PayPal seem to have the opposite policy, i.e. you will get the money back when we do.
Please don't get me wrong, if the item was 'faulty' or was received and not accurately described then that is one thing, I would be more patient, but to pay over £200 for something which is a counterfeit has made me rather anxious.

How do you know your "friend" is correct? Can you prove it's a counterfeit?0

Sadly, a quick google search had confirmed this, an email to the manufacturer with the image was all the confirmation I needed (although I received their email yesterday).
Please note the nature of my post isn't whether the item is authentic or not, I know for certain that the item is not original. When I challenged the seller, he/she made no attempts to deny this.0 -

I was asked by a friend to buy a dvd for them on ebay as they didn't have or want an account, the description gave was brand new original, got it and it was a copy, a fake.0 -

Yes they will. I've had it happen to me twice this week whilst the withdrawals was 'pending'. Don't know why the hell some people can't contact the seller before flipping paypal.0 -

But the seller has refunded? And did so the same day? Not really the actions of a con man.
How do you know they haven't cancelled the withdrawal?
Did you fund the transaction using a credit or debit card, either in part or full? If so, it's likely they want to ensure the payment has completely cleared before reversing the transaction.0
