keyboard missing out letters

i have no idea if this is a keyboard problem or a pc problem. what has started hapening is that random letters will just not work. today it was the space bar, other times its seemingly random letters etc. i thought i may have a virus so ran a full avg scan plus a malaware scan but nothing turned up. the keyboards about 6 yrs old its a wireless type but there is nothing spikt and the keys appear to press. if anyone has ideas i would be grateful

edit-forgot to say that i have new batteries

Yes but is it set as an English keyboard though? Press start and type 'input': it should pull up 'change keyboard....' allowing you to set the correct input language

If you plug in another keyboard, and the problem goes away, then it will be obvious that it is a hardware problem.
