Npower's over estimation of electric usage due to wrong meter reading

Adam at n'power - It seems that you have mis-understood susie93's post and your interpretation of her meter reads is not correct

She has a 6 digit meter - 5 whole numbers beginning with 0, and 1 decimal place
What n'power have been doing is to ignore the 0, and bill a 5 figure reading by including the decimal point
As you must be very well aware, each of the increments on the register dial currently reading 0 represents 10,000 Kwh, but the shift of relavant billing numbers one place to the right, means that susie93 is being charged for 10,000 kwh for every increment on the 1,000 counter dial

Unfortunately susie93 did not give a meter reading in her post, but with payment demands for £3000, its a fair bet that the 1,000 counter that n'power are mis-reading as the 10,000 counter, the present reading on the 1,000 counter is 2 or even 3

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't replied but couldn't face it for a few days.

Many many thanks for all your replies. I now have discovered what the ombudsman and N Power should have spotted although I think N Power know and have acted illegally as I have looked further into all the transcripts/old bills and when Scottish Power tried to take us over in 2011 instead of next door and then when they were told we were not going with them Scottish Power sent a final reading of next doors meter to N Power this being 39431 dated 25th August 2011 and again on another bill it states a reading of 03759 (our meter) on the same date. Then on some of their transcripts it states on the 5/09/11 "ET Mitigation Team - Account billed and next bill date amended to align with billing cycle. Letter sent to advise" In other words they have not looked back at my old bills with actual readings of four digits (leaving the 0 off) not investigated but deliberately chose to align it with the bigger (huge reading) which is why I had a bill for nearly £3,000 after quarterly bills of around £169 - so I would recommend anyone having problems with N Power's billing to send the £10 for the Subject Access as I would have never found this and N Power would have carried on with this cheating lie. I am going to take this to the small claims court and ask for compensation as this has caused no end of worry. I have also written to my MP which strangely enough is Gregory Barker the Energy Minister!! Many many thanks for the replies.

Hi susie93, thanks for reporting back - The Small Claims Court has a track record of awarding serious £'s for stress and pressure, that are way above anything the Ombudsman would ever consider.

As other regulars have posted, it is likely that n'power will try to negotiate a settlement once they know the SMC are involved, so keep in mind the SMC 'punish' power companies with high compensation when they find them at fault, so don't be shy about what you think is fair.

I realise that you have probably dashed off both your posts at high speed, but without paragraphs they are quite hard to understand - You're probably going to do this anyway, but I suggest that your deposition to the Court is laid out on a dated timeline with space between each one.

Sorry my posts were difficult to read - but I get so incensed with rage I just type and waffle away. Good point though I will bear that in mind when I do my deposition to the Court and be calm. It will be quite long. Again many thanks for your help. Will let everyone know how I get on.
