Will I be able to get a mortgage?

Hi, I am after some advice please. I am thinking of doing nurse training, hopefully qualifying in December 2010 (when I will be 40). At the moment nurses start on £19,166 but obviously (hopefully!) it will go up a bit by the time I qualify. I have two children and live in a housing association house.

So my question is, will I be able to get a mortgage? I would be happy with a two bed and am assuming that I would only be able to look at shared ownerships, if at all. I would probably not be able to have a significant deposit - maybe £5000 or so. Will I be able to leave my HA house or not???

Don't see the point anymore in offering advice to people who only want to be agreed with...
  • It depends on the type of training you do. Dont know if you have to be fully qualified before the shared ownership would be a possibility for you.

You may want to post on the mortgage board to get that question answered.

Thanks for the replies. I would be fully qualified by 2011 (not 2010), and the sort of prices for a decent place are about £120,000. Surely that would be well out of my price range? Which is why I was thinking shared ownership would be the way to go. Would my age go against me? First time buyer at 41? Is it do-able do you think?
